The Vision
A community park created by Sandbaai, for Sandbaai
Sandbaai Park is a vision for a different kind of community space.
Not simply a sports field.
Not simply a playground.
Not simply a nature reserve.
A place where all of these things can exist together.
We envision a welcoming public space where children can play, families can gather, people can exercise, athletes can participate in sport, dogs can run safely and Sandbaai’s natural environment can be protected.

A park for every generation
A successful community park should serve people throughout their lives.
A child should be able to discover nature and play safely.
A teenager should have somewhere positive to participate in sport.
A parent should have somewhere to take their family.
An athlete should have somewhere to train.
A senior should have somewhere to exercise and socialise.
A dog owner should have somewhere to exercise their dog.
And anyone should be able to come simply to sit, breathe, enjoy the outdoors and feel connected to their community.
Recreation and conservation together
The vision for Sandbaai Park is not to cover the land with buildings, courts and paving.
Some of the most valuable parts of the site are the natural areas themselves.
We therefore envision a park where active recreational facilities are concentrated in appropriate areas while natural areas are retained and protected.
Indigenous vegetation, tortoises, birds and other wildlife should have a place within the park.
The natural environment should not be something that people have to choose between enjoying and protecting.
It should be part of the experience.
A place to learn
Sandbaai’s natural environment provides an opportunity for education as well as recreation.
Children and visitors should be able to learn about local plants, animals, wetlands and the importance of protecting the environment around them.
The park can become a place where conservation is experienced rather than simply discussed.
A place for community
A community is strengthened when people have places to meet.
Sandbaai Park can provide spaces for families to picnic, residents to gather, community organisations to hold activities and neighbours to simply spend time together.
It can become a natural extension of the community that surrounds it.
Accessible to everyone
The park should be designed with accessibility in mind from the beginning.
People of different ages and abilities should be able to participate, exercise, relax and enjoy the environment.
Accessibility should not be an afterthought.

Built for the future
We know that a project of this scale will not happen overnight.
The park can be developed in stages as funding, partnerships and approvals allow.
Each stage should contribute to the long-term vision rather than becoming a collection of unrelated facilities.
Our goal
We want to create a park that Sandbaai residents can use today, while protecting something that future generations will still be able to enjoy.
A park for people • A refuge for nature • A gathering place for the community • A legacy for Sandbaai.
